MARIKIN  Bed and Breakfast - Welcome

In the heart of Africa, the region of the Gambia, the B&B Marikin offers a special stay.

The most beautiful sea in the world. The state is bathed by the Atlantic Ocean to the west, where the only river that flows through it: the Gambia, which rises in the Fouta-Djallon massif (Guinea). The climate is tropical in Gambia. During the period from June to November, there is a period of warm weather and a very rainy season. From November until May, there are cool temperatures and is part of a dry season. The climate in The Gambia is the same found in neighboring Senegal, southern Mali and northern Benin. WOLOF - TRIBE

Ethnicity. The village is inhabited by a variety of ethnic groups. The inter-tribal conflicts are rare, with each group trying to preserve their language and their traditions. The largest ethnic group is represented by the Mandinka, Fula follow, the Wolof, the Jola, the Miserere and serahule. Then reside in the country about 3,500 foreigners, including Europeans and Lebanese.

RELIGIONS Muslims account for over 90% of the population, the rest is made up of Christians of various denominations. In the country are subject to a great tolerance between the two religions, whose major holidays are officially recognized. Muslim 94%, Christian 4%, animist 1%

DEMOGRAPHY. According to the census of 1993, 63% of Gambians live in rural villages, although there is no consistent flow of young people moving into the capital in search of an education or a job. The new census of 2003 showed that the gap between the percentage of rural population is decreasing and urban (that, however, partly due to the fact that several areas, now urbanized, have been declared urban). Despite migration to the city, development projects and modernization of the country are causing a Westernization of lifestyles and values are still strong in daily life aspects of the tradition (which, for example, the concept of family enlarged and the clothes and the local ceremonies).
